Although June has arrived, Pride month may look a lot different this year. Several stores have decided to reduce the amount of Pride merchandise carried in their stores following DEI rollbacks. Stores like Target were known for having a full blown Pride collection stationed at the front of their entrance. This year Target is expected to have their Pride themed merchandise mixed in with their other inventory instead of making it overly visible. Some corporations have also decided not to sponsor Pride parades. Some say they are in support of the new changes. People have expressed concerns of retailers being too pushy with their Pride message. Many have an understanding that retailers want to support their customers but would rather it be done in a more subtle way.
Pride month is a way to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. The celebration is to honor and support the challenges they have overcome. It's a time to understand the history and their fight for acceptance and equal rights. Pride parades are held to advocate and raise awareness, while it also promotes diversity. These parades can also be wild and offensive. Some parade goers find it necessary to walk the streets nude, making a bold statement.
Even though corporations are scaling back, they continue to support the LGBTQ+ community with special programs dedicated to their cause and they will continue to celebrate with limited Pride themed merchandise. Retailers are now focused on making their consumers feel included and welcomed without forcing the LGBTQ+ ideology.
