Hip Hop Overdose Left Rapper Dead

The haunting grip of drug addiction in young adults and the youth is causing them their lives. An unexpected harsh reality hit so many hip hop fans yesterday when it was confirmed that rapper Rich Homie Quan passed away due to a possible overdose. Quan had hits such as "Walk Thru" "Type of Way" and features with some of today's hottest artist. I recall watching an interview of him a few years ago thinking to myself how articulate, and level headed he was. He just seemed to have a good head on his shoulders; but amidst the laughter and exuberance of young adults , a darker reality lurks beneath the surface. The allure of drugs, promising escape often leads to a downward spiral, leading to uncontrollable addictions. The signs may be subtle, easily overshadowed by partying (living the life) flashy jewelry and other unnoticeable cover-ups. Changes in behavior, erratic mood swings, or sudden withdrawals from social interactions could be the whispers of a deeper struggle taking root. Although Quan was rarely a headliner in the blogs I never once thought he could be silently suffering. We may never know the details of what really happened but overdosing in the hip hop industry is becoming way too common. The stigmas attached to substance abuse can cause those addicted to go into isolation and fear of being judged. Its so unfortunate but this is the reality in the entertainment world.
