The Struggle of Dark Skinned Women And Skin Bleaching

Skin bleaching is rapidly becoming a popular trend within the black culture. Black women are falling for the White American standard in order to gain more popularity and acceptance in a society that does not value them. To be of a lighter skin tone is looked upon as feminine, appealing and attractive in the eyes of most. This perception is not only noticeable in "White America" but in the black community as well. A few well known celebrities have taken it upon themselves to bleach their skin for various reasons. Social media influencer Blac Chyna who started a beauty care line has gone as far as selling lightening creams. Branded as "Whitenicious X Blac Chyna" Diamond Illuminating & Lightening Cream. The small print on the company's website states that it "brightens, lightens without bleaching skin out". Some may disagree. Not to mention, some black men have been very vocal about preferring women who are light skinned or have a fair complexion. Not realizing it may cause some women to feel insecure, or lose their self esteem. Having a personal preference is not an issue, but there's no need to downplay the skin tone you find less attractive. Needless to say, if you are going to bleach your skin seek professional medical advice first. Skin bleaching products are filled with harmful chemicals that may cause side effects or leave permanent scarring to the skin.
